North and Tate Parking Decks Transitioning to License Plate Recognition System

Image of Tate DeckEffective January 4, 2021, the North and Tate Center parking decks transitioned to a License Plate Recognition (LPR) system, which provides customers with an efficient, user-friendly, and contactless parking option. The LPR system was first introduced on campus in 2014 and has been implemented in most parking decks and select surface lots. The LPR system allows entry and exit gates to be removed, which reduces traffic in the parking area and provides contactless payment options for visitors who are able to use ParkMobile to pay for hourly parking.

If you have a permit for North or the Tate Center deck, your permit automatically transitioned from a hang tag to your license plate on January 4, 2021. You may discard your hang tag permit or return it to the One Stop Shop. Please verify your vehicle information is correct in the Parking Account Management system.

As our parking team drives through LPR areas, cameras mounted on the compliance vehicle scan license plates to ensure parked vehicles have a valid permit or hourly/daily pass.

Yes. Individuals who do not have a permit may use the pay stations to pre-pay for parking, or pay through the ParkMobile app, which is available for download on iPhone or Android devices. To pay for parking using the app, enter the zone number posted on signs in the lot, select the amount of time needed and touch the “Start Parking” button to begin the session. Time of the parking session can also be extended on mobile devices, without having to go back to the kiosk. Customers can even receive a push notification when time is nearing expiration, so that a session may be extended.

Coupon codes may be used at the pay stations in lieu of the standard printed parking validations. Departments that need to issue parking validations should contact the One Stop Shop for coupon codes. We are offering a 1-to-1 exchange on any existing passes for coupon codes. The One Stop Shop is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (706) 542-7275 or onestopshop@uga.edu.

Free 30-minute parking at the Tate Center Parking Deck remains available for UGA students, faculty, and staff participating in surveillance testing at Legion Field. Please note that with the Tate Center Parking Deck’s recent transition to a License Plate Recognition (LPR) system, those parking at the Tate Center for testing need to alert the parking attendant upon entering the deck. Participants will receive a parking pass to display on their vehicle to avoid a citation. If you have question about parking, please contact the One Stop Shop at (706) 542-7275.
