What Is the Plates Out Policy?
All vehicles in a UGA campus lot or parking deck are required to park with their license plate visible from the driving lane.
How It Works
UGA Parking Services uses License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology to monitor parking on campus.
Parking enforcement vehicles scan license plates as they drive through a parking lot or deck.
Make sure your plate is visible from the driving lane.
If your plate is not visible…
- We cannot verify your permit or pay-to-park status.
- You will receive a citation even if you have a permit or have paid to park in that lot.
If you prefer to pull through or back into a parking space, you have two options:
(1) Use a front license plate issued by your home state or (2) purchase a front permit plate from the TPS Customer Relations Office.
Front Permit Plates
Front permit plates are issued by UGA Transportation & Parking Services to permit holders who prefer to pull through or back into a parking space.
Please note: You do not need a front permit plate if you have a front license plate issued by your home state.
Purchasing a Front Permit Plate
Front permit plates can be purchased at the TPS Customer Relations Office for a one-time fee of $15.
Your front permit plate is valid as long as you have an active parking permit with UGA Transportation & Parking Services.
What Is License Plate Recognition?
How It Works
With LPR, your license plate is your permit.
Our parking enforcement vehicles are equipped with cameras that scan the license plates of parked cars. The scanned plates are compared against our database of permit holders in real time, allowing for quick and easy verification of permit status.
What This Means for You
No need for a physical permit.
When you register for parking, your license plate is your permit. No stickers or hangtags required!
No need for temporary permits.
If you are driving a different vehicle for the day, or even a week, simply call Transportation & Parking Services and provide the license plate number for the car you’re using.
Important Information
- All vehicles must be registered with Transportation & Parking Services before parking. Unregistered vehicles will receive a citation.
- Permit holders may register up to two vehicles on their account. Temporary vehicles, such as rental cars, do not count against the total number.
- Only one vehicle registered to an account can park on campus at any given time. Vehicles found violating this policy will receive a citation for “Multiple Vehicles Parked.”
