Frequently asked questions are grouped by category below.

Can freshmen bring cars to campus?

Yes. However, parking availability on campus is extremely limited and a parking permit is not guaranteed. You must register and be assigned a permit to park in campus lots. Parking is allocated based on the priority system. Please call (706) 542-7275 with any questions about lot selections.

Is there any free parking on campus?

There is no free parking on the main campus or the Health Sciences Campus during weekday operating hours. All areas require a permit or a pass to park. Visitors and those with no permit may pay to park in a visitor deck or ParkMobile lot. Some areas are not enforced during evenings, nights, and weekends. Learn more about enforcement hours here.

What is the Motorist Assistance Program (MAP)?

Free motorist assistance is available for parking permit holders and guests from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays. Services include jump-starts, search (if you forget where you parked), lights-on notices, and assistance / directions for campus events. Call (706) 542-7275 for help.

How can I obtain permission to park for a few minutes for a delivery or pick-up?

Permit holders who are transporting large materials to campus can contact us at (706) 542-7275 to receive loading and unloading instructions.

What is the Park & Ride?

The Park & Ride offers a low-cost parking option for $10 / month, located off College Station Road. You can take a UGA bus or use the paved multi-use trail to bike or walk into campus. Learn more about the Park & Ride here.

How do I request support for a special event?

Call (706) 542-7275 and a representative will assist you.

I left a personal item on the bus. How can I get it back?

Lost and found items on UGA buses are turned in at the end of the service day. If you believe you have lost an item on the bus, call (706) 369-6221. If possible, please note the 5-digit vehicle number, route, and approximate time of day the item was lost when you call. All unclaimed items are sent to TPS Customer Relations. Call (706) 542-7275 for more information.

How do I know what services are operating?

Transportation and Parking Services (TPS) promotes its service levels by several methods:

What services are available to get to points beyond the UGA bus service area?

UGA and Athens are well-connected to Atlanta and beyond.

Athens-Clarke County (ACC) Transit Department provides fare-free public transportation to destinations beyond the UGA Campus. Transfer to ACC Transit buses is available at several campus bus stops as well as the ACC Multi-Modal Center.  Information about their services is available at

For points in Atlanta and beyond, there are several options, including Groome Transportation and Southern Stages.

I want to advertise on the buses using bus cards. How do I do this?

All bus card requests are handled through Print & Copy Services at the Tate Student Center.

All bus cards must advertise an event sponsored by a registered student organization, a UGA department, or a U.S. government organization. The name of the sponsoring organization or department MUST appear on each poster. The Department of Campus Life reserves the right to disapprove any poster.

For further information regarding prices and procedures, please refer to the Tate Print & Copy Center’s website or call them at (706) 542-8493. Please note that UGA TPS also reserves the right to disapprove any poster.

What is an on-demand stop?

There are two kinds of stops on UGA bus routes:

  • Required stops are stops where bus operators always stop to board and alight riders. Buses occasionally hold at required stops to prevent the buses from running too closely together.
  • On-Demand stops are made only when there is a passenger at the stop or someone on the bus signals the driver to stop. These are generally low traffic stops, so please be at the location early so the operator knows to stop for you.

All stops are on-demand at night.

Who can ride UGA buses?

UGA buses are open to the public. No affiliation with the university is required to utilize our services.

Do the UGA buses have an app?

Yes, passengers are encouraged to download the UGA Mobile App to live track the bus and receive service alerts.

Please note that arrival predictions are approximate and may be affected by traffic and other service conditions.

I forgot my permit.

Call (706) 542-7275 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. for assistance.

How do I request a permit?

Log in to your online account. Follow each step and save the information. An assignment will be sent to your UGAMail when a permit is available to buy. Please review the Priority System before choosing lots to ensure your best chance of receiving an assignment. Students, please select lots where you have high priority as a resident or commuter! Call (706) 542-7275 with any questions.

What is the Priority System?

Customers select parking lot preferences using the priority chart on the Priority Areas Map, which can be found with other helpful maps here. The system assigns spaces based on customer classification, the type of lot, and other information. A detailed description of the priority system can be found here.

When should I request a permit?

Students, faculty, staff, and affiliates can request a permit between April and June for parking assignments for the following fall semester. Permits will continue to be awarded during the year as space becomes available.

What is the cost of a permit?

The cost of a permit is $10 (Park & Ride), $20, $30, or $40 per month depending on the lot. Permits are sold for nine- or twelve-month periods and expire at the end of the spring semester or on July 31st. Permits cannot be purchased monthly, but can be returned at any time. The price is then prorated monthly. Students are billed for their permit in two increments (half in Fall semester and half in Spring semester) through their Student Accounts. A detailed list of rates can be found here.

I didn't request a permit, can I still get one?

Transportation and Parking Services typically has permits available for sale over the counter, but the available spaces may not be near your residence, workplace, or classes. Call us at (706) 542-7275 and ask what’s available.

Why do I need to register my vehicle?

Identifying your vehicle by linking it to your permit is a condition of use for your permit. It prevents accidental parking citations and allows Transportation and Parking Services to notify you of headlights on or emergencies. You may register a vehicle using your online parking account or by calling (706) 542-7275.

What if I need to drive another vehicle?

You may transfer permits from one vehicle to another. Register each vehicle in your online parking account or by calling (706) 542-7275 with the make, model, color and license plate number. If you forgot your permit please stop into TPS Customer Relations in Tate Plaza for a temporary pass.

How can I obtain a disability permit or a temporary disability permit?

You can obtain a disability permit by following the directions under Approval Request in your online parking account or by presenting your state-issued placard from the Georgia Motor Vehicle Division or license tag registration to a representative at TPS Customer Relations in Tate Plaza.

When will football permits be available for sale?

Transportation and Parking Services begins issuing football passes in mid-July. Please create an account by clicking here.

My work for UGA requires parking access.

You may purchase a Vendor / Contractor parking permit. Different permits are required for the main campus and the Health Sciences Campus. Call (706) 542-7275 or visit TPS Customer Relations for assistance.

How do I park if I am visiting UGA or if I am not a permit holder?

What are the enforced operating hours for permit-only lots and decks?

Generally, parking rules are enforced from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, there are some lots and decks that are enforced for longer periods of time.

Detailed lot-by-lot information is located here.

Is there any overnight parking for visitors on campus?
