UGA Ride Smart
UGA Ride Smart, in partnership with Lyft, offers students discounted rides through a nightly rideshare program that runs from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. seven days a week. Rides are offered to or from any destination throughout the greater Athens-Clarke County community as long as the transportation originates or ends within the designated service area, which includes the main UGA campus, Health Sciences Campus, Veterinary complex, and one block north of the Arch in downtown Athens.
- 50% discount on qualifying Lyft Standard or Lyft XL rides; discount up to $5 per ride*
- Available seven days a week from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- Up to 4 rides per month, resulting in as many as 48 rides per year for those enrolled in fall, spring, and summer semesters
- Valid on Standard and XL Lyft rides
- To receive the discount, only the student ordering the Lyft has to be enrolled in the program, additional passengers are welcome
- Lyft Standard allows for up to 3 riders and Lyft XL allows for up to 5 riders and students are encouraged to make the most of their rides by traveling in groups whenever possible
- Rides must begin or end within the service area

UGA Ride Smart offers eligible students 4 discounted rides per month from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. To be eligible for the discounted rate, the ride must begin or end within the designated service area. UGA will contribute 50% of the cost of the ride, a discount of up to $5 per ride.* The remaining cost, including tip, will be paid by the rider using the card on file in their Lyft account.
If your ride meets the UGA Ride Smart criteria, the credit will automatically appear in your ride confirmation screen. If you request a ride that doesn’t meet the criteria, you will not see the discount shown on your ride confirmation screen and you will pay for the ride out of pocket.
Unused ride credits will expire at the end of each month, and 4 new credits will automatically be added to your account for the following month.

Eligible students who have not yet signed up will receive an invitation to their UGA email from Lyft to join UGA Ride Smart at the beginning of each semester. You will need to sign up for UGA Ride Smart using the link in that invitation email.

Students become eligible for UGA Ride Smart if they are registered for classes in the current semester. If you drop your classes, you will no longer have UGA Ride Smart credits.

Signing up for UGA Ride Smart is free to eligible students. Riders are responsible for the remaining cost of the ride that is not covered by UGA at the time of service. Keep in mind that prices may be impacted by distance, traffic, time of day, special events, and Prime Time surcharges.

Students are encouraged to tip their drivers for all rides. Please note that tips will not be covered by UGA and will be paid for by each individual rider.

No, you choose to use one of your UGA Ride Smart credits when you book a Lyft ride.
Students are encouraged to utilize capacity limitations for Standard Lyft rides (up to 3 riders) and Lyft XL rides (up to 5 riders) to travel in groups. This improves rider safety and helps maximize the number of times students can take advantage of this program.
Ride credits are not transferable. However, multiple riders can travel together on one credit.

Per federal mandate, face coverings must be worn when using public transportation. Lyft has initiated additional health and safety measures through a Personal Health Certification program.
You must be 18 years or older to use the Lyft app. Eligible students will receive an invitation email once they have turned 18.
Faculty and staff can use Lyft but are subject to regular pricing.
